Renewable Energy at the Dubai EXPO 2020

In a nutshell

In 2020, the United Arab Emirates will host the famous World Expo in Dubai. Previous editions of this historic exposition presented pioneering inventions such as the typewriter, the x-ray machine and television broadcasting to the world.

The Expo’s desire is to create a meeting and market place through which people can share ideas, showcase innovation, encourage collaboration and celebrate human ingenuity. Throughout its duration of six months, the Expo’s ambition is to trigger sustainable innovation in the MEASA region.

In order to house the Expo in a venue that is as ambitious as the change it aims to produce, GOPA INTEC has been contracted to implement sustainable and renewable energy into its design.

Our approach

The team at GOPA INTEC strives to live up to the Expo’s central themes: sustainability, mobility and opportunity. This is not an easy task, as the site covers a total area of almost 4.4 square kilometres and will have the capacity to accommodate up to 300,000 visitors per day, with a total of 25 million!

So what do we bring to the table? The team at GOPA INTEC will draw on and implement a rich portfolio of renewable energy assets such as solar PV, waste-to-energy anaerobic digestion, multiple functions of wind and solar energy and other future renewable energy technologies.

GOPA’s strong presence in the region, with branch offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, ensures that local customs and values are respected throughout the project’s implementation cycle.
